Brenner’s “bad men.” Will she - and quite possibly the other gifted children - be a strong ally for her old labmate Eleven? Or will she manipulate her instead? It seems likely that all the Hawkins Lab kids will join up to combine superpowers to ultimately turn the tables on their Hawkins Lab oppressors, but that might be the final endgame of the whole show. But the antihero has hidden depths, even from himself.Īnd then there’s Kali who will stop at nothing to get revenge on all of Dr. The Chief earned all the points not only as hero in a crisis, but as a repentant father figure for Eleven. So why should we? Another wild card is Hopper. Owens (Paul Reiser) really worked that charm in season 2, but Joyce didn’t trust the new and improved lab staff. Yes, the smoke monster will not let go of Hawkins, but it’s not much better down in regular land either. That means it’s safe to bet that co-creators Ross and Matt Duffer will load the Neftlix sci-fi smash up with plenty of nostalgic toys, movies and snacks from ’85. While Eleven may have closed the gate, Ross Duffer also confirmed that the monster’s still a threat, and even worse, it knows about her. There were other ways we could have ended beyond that, but I think that was a very strong, lyrical ending, and it really lets us decide to focus where we ultimately are going to want to go as we dive into season 3.” “We talked about different ways that the season could end. For proximal fractures, X-rays can be taken from a scapular anteroposterior (AP) view, which takes an image of the front of the shoulder region from an angle, a scapular Y view, which takes an image of the back of the shoulder region from an angle, and an axillar lateral view, which has the patient lie on his or her back, lift the bottom half of the arm up to the side, and have an image taken of the axilla region underneath the shoulder. ![]() Diagnosis ĭefinitive diagnosis of humerus fractures is typically made through radiographic imaging. If the elbow is bent during the trauma, then the olecranon is driven upward, producing a T- or Y-shaped fracture or displacing one of the condyles. Distal ĭistal humerus fractures usually occur as a result of physical trauma to the elbow region. Long spiral fractures of the shaft that are present in children may indicate physical abuse. Metastatic breast cancer may also cause fractures in the humerus shaft. Physical trauma to the humerus shaft tends to produce transverse fractures whereas falls tend to produce spiral fractures. Middle fractures are usually caused by either physical trauma or falls. A stress fracture of the proximal and shaft regions can occur after an excessive amount of throwing, such as pitching in baseball. Other risk factors for proximal fractures include having a low bone mineral density, having impaired vision and balance, and tobacco smoking. Less frequently, proximal fractures occur from motor vehicle accidents, gunshots, and violent muscle contractions from an electric shock or seizure. ![]() Proximal humerus fractures most often occur among elderly people with osteoporosis who fall on an outstretched arm. Falls that produce humerus fractures among the elderly are usually accompanied by a preexisting risk factor for bone fracture, such as osteoporosis, a low bone density, or vitamin B deficiency. Humerus fractures usually occur after physical trauma, falls, excess physical stress, or pathological conditions. Distal fractures may also cause deformity, and they typically limit the ability to flex the elbow. Displaced fractures of the humerus shaft will often cause deformity and a shortening of the length of the upper arm. If the fracture affects the blood supply, then the patient will have a diminished pulse at the wrist. In cases in which the nerves are affected, then there will be a loss of control or sensation in the arm below the fracture. A crackling or rattling sound may also be present, caused by the fractured humerus pressing against itself. The fracture is typically accompanied by a discoloration of the skin at the site of the fracture. The affected region swells, with bruising appearing a day or two after the fracture. Signs and symptoms Īfter a humerus fracture, pain is immediate, enduring, and exacerbated with the slightest movements. ![]() Proximal and shaft fractures generally have a good outcome while outcomes with distal fractures can be less good. Surgical options may include open reduction and internal fixation, closed reduction and percutaneous pinning, and intramedullary nailing. Many humerus shaft fractures may be treated with a brace rather than surgery. In proximal fractures that remain well aligned, a sling is often sufficient. Treatment options may include a sling, splint, brace, or surgery. A CT scan may be done in proximal fractures to gather further details. Diagnosis is generally confirmed by X-rays. Types include proximal humeral fractures, humeral shaft fractures, and distal humeral fractures. Other causes include conditions such as cancer in the bone. The cause of a humerus fracture is usually physical trauma such as a fall. Complications may include injury to an artery or nerve, and compartment syndrome. Scientific probes launched on Atlas rockets include the first mission to Mercury ( Mariner 10), Venus ( Mariner 2), Mars ( Mariner 4), Jupiter ( Pioneer 10), Saturn ( Pioneer 11), and Pluto ( New Horizons). It was aboard Friendship 7 that John Glenn became the third man to orbit the Earth. ![]() Perhaps the most famous payload launched on the shoulders of Atlas was the Friendship 7 spacecraft in 1962. The lightweight balloon structure, along with the ability to drop the booster engines in flight, allowed the Atlas to approach conventionally staged rockets in performance while still retaining the ability to start and test all main engines while still safely on the ground. Some displays have had an internal structure built within the tanks to provide support.) If the air compressor fails for any reason, the rocket is at risk of collapsing. The structure, known as a 'balloon' structure, was so lightweight that the fuel tanks needed to be continuously pressurized to avoid collapsing under their own weight! (Atlas rockets on display at museums use an air compressor to keep the tanks pressurized. Balloon Tank StructureĪnother design feature of the Atlas was the use of an extremely lightweight structure. By shedding the weight of the two booster engines, the Atlas was now light enough to fly all the way to orbit using only the sustainer engine. After a short period of time, the rocket became light enough and the two booster rockets were dropped. The inner engine, sometimes referred to as the sustainer engine, remained permanently attached to the rocket, while the two outer engines, known as booster engines, were used only during the first few minutes of flight.Īs the rocket rose into the air, fuel was consumed at a fast rate. First of all, of the three main rocket engines on the Atlas, only one remained with the Atlas all the way to orbit. The radical solution developed was two fold. ![]() Using conventional staging, with second stage engines starting in flight, would simply be too unreliable given 1950's technology. The only way to ensure that a rocket started correctly was to start the engines while the rocket was still on the ground. However, chemical rockets of this era could not be reliably started. Clearly, there were significant benefits to the concept of 'staging', or the dropping of used engines and fuel tanks to lighten a rocket as it heads toward orbit. In the 1950's, rocket designers faced a number of serious challenges. One unusual feature of the Atlas rocket is its unique staging system. Over the last 50 years, more than 600 Atlas rockets have flown.
